Completed Projects!

Lots of knitting stuff! On the left, these cute fingerless gloves. I am so addicted to fingerless gloves - this is the fourth pair I've made. These were a lot of fun to make because I used self-patterning sock yarn. Just knit away and the striping takes shape all on its own. Magic!

On the right, a pretty blue roll brimmed hat. Fairly easy to make. Came out kinda large - perfect for someone with a big head - or a lot of hair!

I'm working on a pretty pillow cover now. Photos to come as soon as its finished, but here is a sneak peek:

Stretching My Abbilities

I finally knit something different. No more scarves! Haha, I've still got two scarves cast on but I'm also trying new things. New things that I didn't even think I could make before.

I knit a hat over the weekend. Just your standard knit hat but nonetheless something I didn't know I could do.

Isn't it cute? Now I'm working on a pair of matching fingerless gloves. I already knit almost one when I realized that unless I was planning on swelling up anytime soon these would never fit. I had to rip them out and start over.

I decided that I didn't really like the pattern either so I'm changing that so it matches the hat better. I found both patterns in ChickKnits.

I'm hoping to have 2 complete gloves when I step off the plane tomorrow. That gives me six hours...can I do it? I hope so or I'll be freezing in the snow.

Knitted Hat & Scarf

These are 2 of my latest knitting creations. The scarf is another sort of clone, in the lacy diamond pattern Jenn used for her turquoise scarf posted on January 17th. Mine is made in a soft acrylic variegated yellow/white yarn. Mine is quite a bit shorter than Jenn's and has fringe.

The hat is knit in a similar yarn, but this ball was a sort of persimmony heather. I got the pattern from Lion Brand Yarn's website. It has ear flaps and a braided cord, plus a yellow/persimmon pom pom for spice. I knit it with size 13 needles, so it's soft and snuggly!

I had a lot of this yarn, so in the works is yet another scarf. This one is a mock cable pattern I got from KnittingPatternCentral.com and is knit in the persimmon and yellow, with a long strip of the persimmon, a center section of alternating stripes about an inch wide, then a long strip of yellow. It's really pretty and fun to make. I'll try to get that posted here within the week.

Topsy Turvy Scarf

Another scarf. I know what you thinking....can't she make anything else? Well I can, maybe, but I like scarves because they don't take that long to make and there are so many different patterns. This one is called a potato chip scarf. I found the pattern on Knit Picks.com in their free pattern section.

My favorite part about this scarf is that you knit it lengthwise so you only have to knit 7 rows. I was able to finish it in about 2 days. It's also cool because you can't see the full potential of the scarf until you bind off. When it's complete it's all spirals and wonderful!

Red Scarf Project Finished!

This was a very satisfying project to do. And for such a good cause! It supposed the Orphan Foundation of America, which collects handmade knit scarves (in any variation of red) to give to parentless teens on their way to college. For a lot of them, it is the first handmade gift they've ever received.

It's probably hard to tell by the photos, but I used a nice pattern called the open-check stitch from the 365 Knitting Stitches A Year Perpetual Calendar. There's so many great patterns to try. I used Lion Brand Jiffy (acrylic with a mohair feel) and went to town. Unfortunately, I ran out of yarn with 20 inches to go and frantically had to search all over town for supplemental yarn (I eventually had to drive a half-hour to get more of the same yarn!). But it was well worth it. I hope the person who ends up with the scarf enjoys it forever...

A Quick Knit

This was something I knit up real quick as a baby gift for a coworker. She's having a girl. I love the little point on the hat - it's so elf like. The booties are so cute and tiny. It reminds me of just how small an infant's feet are. I really hope my coworker likes them!

The project came from a great book of quick knits from Kris Percival called "Speed Knitting." The booties take literally about a half-hour a piece! And I had so much fun creating the ties - I LOVE doing I-cord!!!

I just used a nice washable acrylic yarn from stash I already had in my house.
